The Pan-African United Development Network (PAUDEN) celebrates with immense relief and gratitude the safe rescue of all the abducted pupils and teachers from Oriire Local Government Area in Oyo State. After 56 harrowing days in captivity following the May 15, 2026, attack on schools in the Ahoro-Esiele and Yawota communities, our children and their educators are finally home.
A Moment of National Relief and Gratitude
We extend our heartfelt commendation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration for the decisive leadership that prioritized the safe return of these innocent souls. Our profound appreciation also goes to the gallant men and women of the Nigerian Army, Nigeria Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and other collaborating security agencies, including local vigilantes and Amotekun operatives, whose intelligence-led, coordinated operation brought this ordeal to a successful conclusion.
The rescue of the 39 pupils and surviving teachers — achieved without ransom or unacceptable concessions — demonstrates a strong commitment to the protection of Nigerian lives, particularly the most vulnerable. While we mourn the tragic loss of life, including the teacher reportedly killed in captivity, we stand in solidarity with the affected families, the Oyo State Government under Governor Seyi Makinde, and the entire nation as the victims begin their journey of healing and reintegration.
At PAUDEN, our core pillar of Community Security drives us to advocate for proactive, prevention-focused systems that safeguard lives and dignity before crises escalate. This incident underscores the urgent need for sustained investment in school safety, rural security architecture, and community resilience across Africa. No child should ever have to endure such trauma in pursuit of education.
